Memory Lab
Brain plasticity training through evidence-based language learning
What is Memory Lab?
Memory Lab is a personal training platform that uses language learning as the foundation for memory and cognitive flexibility exercises. Built around Italian, Japanese, German, and French, this site combines proven learning science with daily practice to help strengthen recall, working memory, and mental agility.
Unlike passive review apps, Memory Lab emphasizes effortful retrieval — you type or write every answer, engaging deeper processing and motor memory. The platform uses spaced-repetition scheduling (SM-2 algorithm) to optimize when you practice each item, and Daily Mix sessions intentionally interleave languages and exercise types to create desirable difficulty.
How It Works
🧠 Spaced Repetition
A shared scheduler tracks every item and surfaces them at scientifically-optimized intervals. Items you struggle with come back sooner; items you master fade into long-term review.
✍️ Production Practice
No multiple choice — you type vocabulary, write kanji strokes in order, and reconstruct sentences from memory. Production creates stronger encoding than recognition.
🌐 Interleaved Learning
Daily Mix sessions shuffle items across all four languages and exercise types within a single session. This creates healthy cognitive friction and strengthens discrimination.
📦 Anki Import
Already have Anki decks? Import .apkg files or CSV exports directly. Your existing cards become part of the spaced-repetition system immediately.
Exercise Modules
- 📚Vocab SRS: Spaced-repetition flashcards with typed recall across all four languages
- 🖌️Kanji Writer: Canvas-based stroke practice with stroke-order validation for Japanese characters
- 🔀Daily Mix: Configurable sessions (5–20 min) that interleave due items across languages and modules
Additional modules (sentence reconstruction, n-back, memory palace, listening span) planned for future phases.
Limited Access
Memory Lab is currently in private beta with limited user accounts. This is a personal training tool designed for a small group of language learners. New signups require approval — please allow time for your request to be reviewed.
If you're interested in access, you can submit a signup request, and you'll be notified once your account is approved.
